Dear Marie,

I had always wanted a son. It didn’t happen, but then there was you.

We’ve never spoken or met, but we’ve had many conversations. I tell you about your son and how proud you can be. Every day, I look at him with joy and think of you.

I tell him about you and how much you love him. I may not know a lot about you, but I know your heart. I know the strength it took for me to live without a child. I can only imagine the strength and love it took for you to place him for adoption.

We all have seasons in our lives. I had accepted that my season for having a son was over, but then there was you.

I had been pregnant and had a stillbirth. The baby was a boy. I was in an abusive marriage, and my husband struggled with addiction. Eventually, I divorced and remarried in my 40s. But, again, I assumed my season for having a child was gone.

I learned that your pregnancy was unplanned. It was explained that your life was in crisis because of situations you were faced with. I can’t imagine how you struggled on your own to care for and provide for a newborn.

The adoption agency told me you’d done your best. They said they had a three-month old baby boy, who needed to be placed for adoption. I had let go of all hope, but then there was you.

Know that your son is loved and accepted. He is brilliant and beautiful. Also know that you are loved and accepted. I know that he’s brilliant and beautiful because of you. It is an honor and a privilege to be his adoptive family.

There is the utmost love, appreciation and respect for you always. We are one human family.

With Love,
Roxanne
