Life can be stressful, and when you throw pregnancy and bringing a child into the world, that stress gets compounded. Mothers-to-be and new mothers have a host of things to worry about, regardless of their situation. If you are feeling like it’s all too much to deal with, try these tips for staying positive in trying times.

1. Surround Yourself With Positivity

Is there something or someone who is bringing you down? If you have an extremely negative friend or a source of bad news that you keep going back to over and over, you’re not doing yourself any favors by keeping them around. Take stock of who and what you fill your time with, and make smart decisions about your mental state of mind. Dump the negative elements and find new, positive connections.

2. Take Care of Yourself

It is incredibly easy to stop taking care of yourself, especially during stressful life events or transitions. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep every night, eating regular meals and exercising. Practicing self-care may not solve all your problems, but it is certainly a step in the right direction.

3. Take Your Time

If you are experiencing feelings of depression or guilt, making quick decisions and rushing through things could only make them worse. Take time to relax, and plan ahead so you’re never rushing somewhere at the last minute or scrambling to get things done. Sometimes a little leisure time and a measured, relaxed approach are all you need to ease your mind.

4. Find the Silver Lining

No matter how bad things seem, there is always a bright side or a silver lining. Very few things in life are all good or all bad. If you can find the good news in a bad situation you might be able to improve your outlook and your mood.

5. Do Something Just For You

When there is a child involved and other people depending on you, it might feel like your wants and needs are not a priority. Give yourself a break and take an afternoon to do something just for you. Go out to the movies, or treat yourself to a nice meal. Give yourself permission to forget about all your stressors for a few hours and enjoy yourself. You deserve it.
