Get your cup filled on Tuesdays in March. The Empty Cup in Knoxville, TN will be hosting Tuesday Talks from noon to one throughout the month with Destiny Adoption.
Each week, talks will focus on a specific adoption topic.
March 6: Meet Destiny!
We’ll provide information about our staff, attorneys, locations and the adoption process in general. In a Q&A session, we’ll answer your questions.
March 13: Is there financial assistance available to adoptive parents for adoption?
Yes! You’ll learn about a variety of options, including:
- Adoption grants – Help Us Adopt and Gift of Adoption
- Interest-free loan companies – Lifesong” and ABBA Fund
- Creative fundraising – YouCaring, AdoptTogether, Go Fund Me and The Empty Cup
- Adoption tax credit, recently raised to $13,840 in 2018
March 20: Our Unique Heart for Birth Mothers
We’ll be discussing the unfortunate lack of services available post-placement for birth mothers and how Destiny aims to change that. Destiny offers to birth mothers free, lifetime mental health counseling, monthly support groups and community resource linkage. We use the Lifetime Healing curriculum, which we’ll have on hand, to provide these services.
March 27: The Correlation Between the Opioid Epidemic, Rising Foster Care Numbers and Plummeting Adoption Numbers in Tennessee
As of February 2018, there were approximately 8,725 children in state custody in Tennessee, and those numbers continue to rise weekly. We’ll discuss the issue of children entering custody and the various factors associated with them exiting custody and how parental substance is a contributing factor.
We look forward to seeing you at our Tuesday Talks at The Empty Cup, where adoption is their mission. A new type of coffeehouse, The Empty Cup is a gathering space — yes, with excellent coffee, local food, a marketplace and live music — but it goes beyond that.
The goal of The Empty Cup is to help the community rethink how adoption fundraising is done, and as people pour into The Empty Cup, they pour back out to local families in the form of adoption grants.
