If you are a fan of football, you’ve probably heard of Tony Dungy. He is most famous for being the first black head coach to win the Super Bowl when he took the Indianapolis Colts to victory over the Chicago Bears in 2007.

Dungy had a long and storied career in professional football, but his proudest accomplishments are off the field. Dungy is a spokesman for the fatherhood organization All Pro Dad, and he doesn’t just talk the talk.

He and his wife, Lauren, have 10 children — seven of whom are adopted. Dungy is an advocate for adoption and foster parenting, and he wants everyone to know the joys of raising a child. In a 2017 letter to the editor of the Miami Herald, Dungy said, “Being a dad is my best job, and my family is the greatest team.”

All Pro Dad was founded in 1997 by Mark Merrill to encourage and support good fathers. The organization is football themed and features more than 50 NFL coaches, players and alumni. The organization runs a monthly event hosted by 931 local chapters in 48 states and 9 countries called “All Pro Dad’s Day.”

During the event, fathers and children have breakfast together and strengthen family relationships. The organization also works to encourage men to become fathers through foster parenting or adoption.

For Dungy, being a foster parent is both a blessing and a responsibility. Children all across the country (and the world) are without families or fathers, and he believes that taking them into your home can change their lives for the better.

Dungy and others like him advocate for All Pro Dad because they believe every child deserves a safe and loving home. He often compares his work with All Pro Dad and being a parent to his work as a professional football coach.

“I am always humbled when former players thank me years after I coached them,” wrote Dungy in 2017. “Usually, they mention how grateful they were for an opportunity. Though the joy I gained from mentoring young people far outweighs what I can give. The same is true in fostering and adoption.”

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a foster parent, visit All Pro Dad to learn more. You can also check out All Pro Dad’s “4 Joys of Foster Parenting” for more information about the benefits of becoming a foster parent. Whether you’re a football fan or someone who wants to be an all-star dad, you can make a difference in the life of a child.
